U.S. Army Recognizes New World at ECBC Ceremony
August 10, 2004
(FREDERICKSBURG, VA) - The U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) held a ribbon cutting ceremony today, recognizing the installation of air filtration systems in the new Advanced Chemistry Laboratory (ACL).
At the ceremony, Mr. Jim Zarzycki, ECBC technical director, lauded the performance of all involved in the air filtration systems installation and the leadership of Mr. Ron Pojunas, head of ECBC’s Engineering Services Business Unit. The ACL will serve as the nation’s premier research and development facility for chemical warfare defense.
Brad Repp, president of New World, accepted a letter of commendation signed by Major General John C. Doesburg recognizing New World’s, "...significant contribution in the concept, development, design, fabrication, assembly and validation of the toxic filtration solution for the Edgewood Advanced Chemistry Laboratory (ACL)."
In support of this program, New World and manufacturing partner Anderson Metal Industries of Franklin, PA developed and manufactured 246 OpenAire filter housings, which hold M98 radial flow gas filters. "Unlike building collective protection applications, the filtration systems in the ACL will be challenged with toxic compounds on a daily basis," said Mr. Repp. "Under the direction of Mr. Pojunas, we conducted an unprecedented number of airflow simulations, tests, and other technical assessments to validate the performance of these gas filter systems."
OpenAire filter systems are being broadly specified for building and ship collective protection applications because of weight, cost, and performance advantages. They are available in both aluminum and stainless steel construction.
